Company History

1994–1999 | Foundations in GPS Innovation
Michael Hughes, a former U.S. Air Force navigation systems expert, adapts GPS tracking for civilian use. Early experiments in analog GPS data transmission lay the groundwork for real-time fleet tracking.
2000–2005 | Track Star Launches
Track Star International is founded in 2000. The first GPS platform is released for government and first responder fleets. Early adoption of digital communication reduces costs and improves data speed, securing partnerships with major carriers like Verizon.

2006–2009 | From Hardware to Software Leadership
Track Star earns Verizon CDMA 1xRTT certification and modernizes with Microsoft SQL architecture. The company pivots from in-house hardware manufacturing to third-party device integration, accelerating software innovation and scalability.
2010–2013 | Expanding Core Capabilities
Track Star enhanced AVLS with stronger data integration, security, and CAD/RMS connectivity, giving dispatchers unified visibility. IoT integrations broadened tracking to mobile equipment, trailers, and even K-9 officers, helping first responders and municipal clients extend coverage beyond standard fleet vehicles.

2014–2017 | Enterprise Fleet Solutions
This period introduced FirstNet and Band 14 compatibility, ensuring network priority during emergencies. Version 6 launched as a fully browser-based platform, enabling mobile workflows, remote access, and secure management for complex fleet operations. The upgrade marked a major step toward scalability and user-friendly enterprise solutions.
2018-2020 | Advanced Intelligence & Compliance
Integration with ESRI ArcGIS enables client overlays to deliver powerful geospatial analysis. Predictive maintenance algorithms, automated compliance, and emissions monitoring expand the platform into a full fleet intelligence solution serving critical industries across North America.

2021–2022 | Growth & Enterprise Fleet Solutions
Track Star joined the Solen Software Group to use resources and boost growth. Strengthened by Solen's backing, Track Star acquired ThingTech, expanding its IoT ecosystem. This period also saw the launch of Track Star Enterprise with Enterprise Asset Management, preventive maintenance tools, and open APIs for universal data connections.
2023 Present | Safety, Video & Modernization
A rebrand and new UI modernized the platform, while partnerships like PursuitAlert and the launch of advanced video telematics reinforced Track Star’s position as the trusted choice for mission-critical fleets. These updates cement Track Star’s role as an innovation leader in fleet safety and intelligence.
